In an effort to learn new emotions, to see the most unusual places and get the greatest impressions from traveling, people sometimes dare to quite daring adventures. For example, climbing to the top, extreme jungle tours or diving on underwater vehicles allow you to feel part of nature, immerse yourself in new sensations to the full. This type of tourism can be very exciting, but along with many advantages, adventure tourism has its significant disadvantages. Therefore, before you throw yourself into the abyss with a head - figuratively and literally - it is worth considering whether such an experience is suitable for you. Compare the pros and cons of adventure tourism before you go skydiving, conquer dangerous peaks or go deep into the impenetrable jungle.

Plus: you can learn more about the world

Travel allows people to broaden their horizons, develop new skills and see the world from a different angle. Adventure tourism also aims to do this, but according to its fans, provides a more in-depth experience. It's an opportunity to visit interesting places outside of traditional tourist areas, to see and experience things that would be out of reach for most other travelers.

Travelers who are proponents of adventure tourism cite the opportunity to get away from the daily grind, add new, edgy colors to their daily routine, and fill themselves with epic memories to then enjoy in anticipation of a new trip as one of its main perks. Many fans of traveling with a "peppery edge" claim that it can give a person a sense of achievement, overcome fears and build strength and stamina.

The minus: it can be life-threatening

This is the main one of the disadvantages of adventure tourism, which again and again makes its supporters and opponents argue about whether it is really worth it. The risk to a person's health and even life comes with it side by side. You can get sick or injured during any trip, but adventure tourism increases the danger many times over. Often the destinations of such vacations are associated with the stay of a person in extreme conditions, where medical or any other assistance may not be available. In addition, travelers themselves can expose themselves to danger: ignore the rules unknowingly or, conversely, too much risk, wanting to "raise the stakes". Not always adventure seekers sensibly assess their capabilities, and then excitement takes over reason.

Here you should also take into account the technical component. Malfunctions with devices, equipment, incompetence of personnel can lead to fatal consequences. For example, everyone has already heard about the recent tragic dive of tourists on the underwater vehicle "Titan" in order to examine the wreckage of the Titanic. As a result, all passengers and crew died, confirming that no one is immune to accidents and unforeseen situations. Even with the utmost precautions, the possibility of injury or death still remains.

Plus: it can improve your health

Adventure tourism requires a person to have a good level of fitness, stamina and also increases them, just like any other physical activity. Of course, you can also improve your body and spirit in a comfortable gym. But it is difficult to disagree with the fact that sports in the fresh air, watching breathtaking landscapes, in direct contact with nature bring more pleasure than sweating in the hall among the same walls.

An important advantage of adventure tourism is the emotions that a person receives. After all, we are not only talking about physical development, but also psychological health. Traveling helps us to get rid of stress, bad emotions, overcome insecurity and find new motivation for the next challenges in life. In difficult situations, when a person is going through hard times, new impressions help to cope with tension and find new strength. It's not for nothing that psychologists advise a change of scenery during stressful periods to find hope and reboot your morale.

Minus: it is expensive

One of the major disadvantages of adventure tourism is its cost. The gear and equipment for adventure tourism is very expensive. It is designed to ensure safety, and given the risks involved, it cannot be cheap. In addition, many types of adventure tourism require careful and lengthy training, which also requires a good investment.

A place on the already mentioned "Titan" cost 250 thousand dollars, but despite this, there were constantly willing. There are other similar expeditions and routes, and all of them are expensive. Even very expensive. But these proposals have their rich potential travelers who are looking for previously unimaginable experiences. So claiming that the price will stop them is not worth it. All sorts of pros and cons, even tragic cases, will not weaken the demand for adventure tourism. But if you do decide on an exclusive adventure, be prepared for expensive spending.

Plus: it boosts the local economy

Just like regular tourism, adventure travel boosts local economies. By attracting tourists to remote areas, they bring money there through job creation and increased investment opportunities. In addition to specialized services directly related to the subject of tourism, it stimulates the development of secondary ones. For example, if we are talking about a mountainous region, then in addition to equipment rental and training school for beginners, it will be necessary to create places for accommodation (hotels, hostels, camping and similar), for food (from street food outlets to cafes or restaurants), transfer (locally, to the airport or train stations and back) and some places for recreation outside the mountain slopes: food markets, stores, souvenir shops, locations for walks, evening entertainment and so on.

In general, adventure tourism can give advantages to depressed areas and become the basis for their development. If done responsibly, it brings stable support to local businesses.

Minus: it can be harmful to the environment

Any type of tourism, including adventure tourism, is capable of having a negative impact on nature, leading to its littering and changing the natural environment. Unfortunately, not all travelers and companies that create conditions and infrastructure for tourism understand how fragile the ecosystem can be. Therefore, many countries limit the number of visitors for certain natural areas, tighten rules for visiting and fines for violations. Bans on bathing in water bodies, attempts to remove stones or other objects from the territory of nature reserves, tearing down plants or interacting with wild animals - all these restrictions are related to the fact that even the slightest interference in the natural environment can have dire consequences for it. What to speak of if such actions are done not by a couple of tourists, but by thousands.

Tourism can also cause problems for local residents, who may not be happy about the constant influx of "temporary guests". Especially if they do not care too much about the conformity of their behavior to generally accepted norms or local culture. On the other hand, along with these negatives, it is worth noting positive cases when adventure tourism attracted attention to the problems of environmental conservation and stimulated their solution to protect natural areas.
